Stuxnet is a virus that was recently discovered by Iranians… you know, in the computer systems that operate their nuclear power plants (Siemens systems) .
The virus was unleashed in January of 2009, and the Iranians just discovered it. A lot of people think the virus came from Israel … because they kind of left their signature in the code… (death date – 05-09-1979 – of an Jewish Iranian leader who was executed, pretty much for nothing, but falsely accused as a spy for Israel because of a political transition that made him unpopular in Iran)…
SO… what does Stuxnet mean for the rest of us?
It means viruses have been designed that can hop from host to host looking for a particular program, attach itself, and either screw it up or send private information to a not-so-private place.
So, what does that mean? It means that if a country has beef with another country and it’s not Angus, then instead of a missile, they might unleash a virus that sends an e-mail to your landlord calling him a “jerk off” and you’ll never know because the e-mail was erased from your Sent folder by the virus… and your landlord will be mean to you without you knowing why… but this could happen on a scale of millions and with business transactions…
Want to mess with a country… mess with its money… Cyber war is good for that.
What do you think?
